This symposium invites all healthcare professionals, decision-makers and public health researchers in the Indian Ocean region to reflect together on

Effects of climate change

(exposure to high ambient temperatures, droughts, degraded air quality, cyclones and tropical storms, intense rainfall and consequent flooding) on

Epidemiology and management of non-communicable diseases

as cardiovascular disease, hypertension, diabetes, respiratory ailments, kidney disorders, cancers, mental health and more.

11 international speakers

who are very much involved in the region (Mauritians, French, Malagasy, Swiss, Seychellois), will attempt to take stock of the situation and question future challenges. The discussions will open the debate on expected adaptations, taking into account the :

  • specific features of island Indianoceania (session 1)
  • environmental health determinants (session 2)
  • current and future strategic initiatives (session 3)
  • recent and forthcoming regional research (session 4)
