11:00 AM - Some encironmental health determinants (session 2)

Climate change and food resources: projections, fears and suggestions for regional diets

Islands like Mauritius are on the front line when it comes to the impacts of climate change.

This reality exacerbates health vulnerabilities, in particular the ability to manage non-communicable diseases (NCDs), linked to dietary degradation and induced sedentariness, as well as heat stress. The current healthcare model, already under pressure, will not be able to respond effectively to these new threats without a radical transformation.

We urgently need to design and implement disruptive approaches, based on scientific and medical innovation, adapted to our specific geographical and cultural conditions. This requires collective mobilization: researchers, clinicians, decision-makers and citizens must pool their expertise.

If we fail to act, we risk going under. The future of our healthcare system depends on our ability to anticipate, innovate and collaborate today.
